Common Questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Nº1. How do I find my size?
I use measurements, such as bust, waist, and hip in inches.
— Look for a gown your size or slightly larger that you can take in.
— Keep the tape measure level when measuring and get help for the best results!
— ALWAYS look for a dress slightly bigger, never smaller. You can have it taken in, but rarely can they be taken out.Bust (B) - This is the circumference around the fullest part of your chest.
Waist (W) -Your smallest circumference around your stomach—usually just an inch or two above the belly button.
Hip (H) - The fullest circumference around your pelvic/buttocks area.
Waist to Floor - This is the straight distance from your waistline to where the dress will hit the floor.Nº2. Do you offer plus sizes?
Yes, I try to maintain a variety and carry just about every size, including plus sizes up to 32W.
However, my stock is very limited which means what sizes are available is limited as well.
— My most common sizes are between a standard 8 and 20W
— If a dress your size is not available consider taking a larger dress in with alterations.
— I recommend only taking a dress in by 5 inches so alterations are not drastic.Nº3. What about hem alterations?
Most gowns can be taken up at the waistline. If your tailor does not offer this see another tailor.
— I also put specifics regarding hemming on the listing of each gown.Nº4. Can you color my gown?
See my listing here for availability and details.
https://www.canvasbridal.com/gowns/p/custom-coloringI have very limited openings that sell out almost immediately.
Nº5. The dress I want is sold. Will you re-make it?
Typically no.
Even for custom orders I do not allow EXACT re-makes. Meaning the same coloring on the same dress. I do however often do very similar colorings on different gowns. I also have collections that I often add too. For instance my sunset collection features all mermaid gowns with my signature sunset coloring. If you love that coloring, chances are you will be seeing more of it on different gowns. There is also a chance a bride may wish to re-sell there gown after their wedding. I do offer consignment. This is rare, but if you add your email to the listing of the dress you like, I will notify you if it comes back via consignment.
Nº6. Can I put a dress on Hold?
After Purchase
— I allow a 4-week max shipping hold and will still honor the return period within this time frame.
— I can hold the dress for longer; however, the return period would be void, and the sale final. Before Purchase
— On gowns that have been listed longer than three days, I allow 24-hour holds to accommodate acquiring funds or payment problems.
— After one week, I allow holds for in-person try-ons. See notes under Try-On Locations for more details.Nº7. Do you have a shop? Try-On Location?
I do not have a retail location. I make these from my home in Kansas City, MO.
— If you are local, you can book a try-on of a single gown with my seamstress, who has a fitting room in her home. Email me here to find a time that works in the upcoming few weeks; the gown will be put on hold until your try-on.
— Try-ons do have a cleaning fee. This fee will go toward the dress if you purchase it.Nº8. Order Processing Time? Shipping?
— Each dress receives a full inspection and another steaming before shipping.
— Please expect a 1-2 week processing time before shipping to allow this and any touch-ups.Once the dress is shipped, you will receive tracking information and can expect it in 2-3 days. You will need to sign for the package.
I ship via USPS priority mail, fully insured.Nº9. How do I clean the dress?
If you purchase a gown from me, one free cleaning is included with your order. Just cover to and from shipping.
— I hand wash each dress since dry cleaning uses harsh chemicals that strip things like paint.
— I also have listed instructions on how to hand wash your gown safely at home on my blog.Nº10. How does the color feel/smell?
This depends on the dress, gradients on tulle and organza typically have no change. Chiffon can feel a little heavier and a very light change to the touch but still drapes wonderfully. Lace is my personal favorite but with thicker appliques it can be a little hard, still flexible and have movement, but it will want to stay flat. This is especially true if I do any hand painting. I will often purposefully paint thickly to enhance the lace, stiffness in the lace also can be beneficial to help the train lay out perfectly and not scrunch up. I know how to do this while maintaining gaps that keep movement.
As for smell, right out of the box, or when kept sealed you may notice a slight paint scent. This will air out and dissipate after a little time out of the box/bag. I do also treat the fabric with a conditioner after painting. This conditioner has a light lavender sent and a lavender sachet is included to deter insects during storage. So you may smell lavender more that you will paint, if your not a fan of this smell, you can spray the colored area with any fabric fragrance of your choice.

— It is your responsibility to make sure there will be enough time for the item to be made prior to your wedding.
— I am not responsible for delayed shipments.Nº3. Do You Take Rush Orders?
Since it is only me coloring each item and I often have a full schedule I do not offer rush orders. Typically there is just not the time available.

YES! No need to worry about rain, this color will not transfer to your dress — unlike dyed ombre accessories from other sellers.
Nº5. How Do I Safely Store It?
All accessories come with the proper storage materials and instructions for long term storage and travel.

Currently no, but I do have plans to offer them soon. I am in the process of developing these accessories with my seamstress @Roux Bridal. We have 6 more styles coming 2 of them planed to be cape/cloak style.
Nº7. Do You Offer Color Matching?
Not exact matches, but I can get it very close. Exact matches require physical samples, digital cameras and screens can alter colors slighting making color matching digitally impossible. The great thing about gradients is the variety of tones even in a single color gradient. So typically they blend really well with other decor and items you want to match.
Nº8. How do I Make a Custom Gradient?
Use the website https://coolors.co/gradient-makerto create your gradient.
— Click on the color bar to add more colors
— I suggest keeping it to 4 or less for smoother gradients.
— Start with your base/top color from section 2 to see how it blends.
— Follow the rainbow order for brighter mixes. Red follows Purple. When you are satisfied with your gradient, click the blue down arrow next to copy CSS. Then, choose “Copy Url.” This is the URL to share with me on your order form.
I also recommend downloading the gradient image for your records.
Nº9. Which Hair Clip is Right For Me?
Bridal combs are easier to remove and ideal for thick hair and updo’s
Extention clips have a stronger hold and are ideal for thinner hair and down hairstyles.
— If you are between hair colors, getting the darker option will blend better.Nº10. Can You Design My Gradient For Me?
Nope, I require you to use the gradient maker for yourself. So I do not have to explain color theory a million times and so you can see first hand how the colors of your choice mix. Eventually I may add design services for an additional fee, however I am not currently offering this.

I do not have a retail location. I make these from my home in Kansas City, MO.
— If you are local, you can book a try-on of a single gown with my seamstress, who has a fitting room in her home. Email me here to find a time that works in the upcoming few weeks; the gown will be put on hold until your try-on.
— Try-ons do have a fee. This fee will go toward the dress if you purchase it.Nº5. Cannot Add To Cart
It might already be in your Cart. To check your cart, click the shopping bag icon (top right).
— Since each dress is limited to one, the checkout will not allow you to add 2.Nº6. Payment Problems
This is common; typically, your bank needs to approve the transaction. This may take 1-2 days.
— If you are experiencing this problem, please email me here to have the dress put on a temporary hold.Nº7. Order Processing
Please see the item listing, each item has different processing times that will be noted on the listing.
— Rush orders are not currently available.Nº8. Donations
I am very picky about the gowns I select for upcycling. For this reason I prefer to buy gowns from bridal shops or trusted resale platforms like Still White and Poshmark. Accepting physical donations in the past left me overcrowded with not usable gowns. If you would like to help my business increase inventory you can donate monetarily. 100% of this goes to purchasing “canvas” gowns or supplies, donations are not refundable.
Nº9. Ethics
All items items that are made from scratch, are produced by my seamstress Roux Bridal and myself in the USA ~ Kansas City MO. We use recycled materials when we can and believe in slow fashion and limit plastics.
My ready-made gowns are sourced mainly from small bridal shops that are over crowded by discontinued designer gowns. It is mutually beneficial business relationship. I have decided to never pursue garment manufacturing overseas and am committed to in-house small scale business.
I can’t say I’m entirely eco friendly but I do my part to not add to the problem. I’m not here to get rich at the expense of this planet and my integrity. I’m here to make art without compromising my personal ethics.
